Real Self Defense Center functional sport combat / mixed martial art programs are designed for beginner or advanced students who are martial arts enthusiasts and are looking for ongoing, thorough, functional combative training. Our objective is to produce a well rounded, athletic combat practitioner.
Our Functional Sport Combat / Mixed Martial Arts is broken down into three areas.
- Empty Hand ( stand-up, close quarter, ground )
- Weapons ( defense, offense, impact, blade )
- Fight Club ( Advanced Group Class )
Real Self Defense Center functional sport combat training is separated into three skill sets.

- Grappling / Ground fighting
A lack of understanding in any of these ranges can lead to an incomplete sport combat practitioner.
Our training in boxing and kick boxing build the framework for a realistic stand-up game. These training systems provide an outstanding bio-mechanical delivery system for both attack and defense in stand-up fighting. All amateur and professional Mixed Martial Arts (M.M.A.) and No Holds Barred (N.H.B.) gyms around the world use boxing, kick boxing or Muay Thai (Thai kick boxing) as the foundation for the effective, functional stand-up combat.

In addition, we realize that punching without gloves or wraps in the street can leave your fists cut, bruised, sprained or broken, especially when targeting your opponent’s head.
For this reason, Real Self Defense Center's "modified street boxing" a.k.a. "Blitzkrieg Tactics", applies boxing mechanics with different tools such as open hand strikes, hammer fists and backhands. As well, kicking is integrated and modified for greater street realism.
Close quarter / Clinch combat
Most fights start and often end in this range, it is sorely neglected by most martial art schools.
Stand-up fighters (boxing, kick boxing) end up in close quarter / clinch and grapplers have to go through this range to get you to the ground.
Real Self Defense Center Close Quarter / Clinch Combat curriculum trains you for clinch entries, neck tie, body locks, take downs, tie ups and the counters to all these tactics.
Real Self Defense Center will train and condition you to deal with being encroached, poked, shoved or grabbed and punched. Our goal is to keep you from freezing in fear spurred by the stress of a real street attack.
Clinch combat happens in real fights. Our training teaches proper positioning and movement in the clinch to negate the attack and set up your counter to quickly end your aggressor's ability to aggress.
Our close quarter tools consists of head butts, biting, eye rakes, elbows, knees, low-line kicks and stomps. You will also learn pre-emptive strikes and to identify sucker-punch setups.
Grappling / Ground fighting
It is well recognized world wide in Mixed Martial Arts (ring, cage or octagon fighting), that Brazilian Ju Jitsu is the primary system used for grappling and ground fighting. Brazilian Ju Jitsu is the REAL Self Defense Centers foundation for all our grappling and ground fighting.
Our grappling cirriculum covers in positional dominance, positional excapes, chaining tactics and ground and pound tactics.
We also modify the training strategies and tectics so they can be adaptable for the realities of the street. Multiple attackers, weapons and street surfaces can determine choice of tectics.
Many systems traing weapons later in their cirriculum progression, in the tradiition of the Filipino martial arts you will train with and against weapons from day one.
The Real Self Defense Centrer offers weapons training in single/double stick, collapsible baton, stick/knife, and knife.
Fight Club "Advanced Group Class" is the advanced intensive program of the Real Self Defense Center. Although it is open to all students, entry is by invitation only. It is "invitation only" not because it is an elite program, but because the student must have acquired a "base skill level" in all of the sub-system areas (Weapons, Stand-up, Clinch and Ground).
Fight Club requires a certain level of control and aerobic and anaerobic conditioning.Most important of all Fight Club requires - NO EGO -
Fight Club trains hard and spars hard, but safely in all areas. Weapons fighting, weapons defense scenarios, multiple attacker fighting and empty hand. It's designed for students who want to find out what really works and raise their conditioning and combat skill to a high functional level.
Legalities, negligence and excessive force are discussed throughout all programs so that all students will be equipped to defend themselves in a responsible and reasonable manner.
